Services Performed
- Drained engine oil and cooling system. Disassembled as needed for removal of cylinder head. Removed head and sent out to be inspected. Cleaned and prepared gasket surfaces. Reinstalled cylinder head, all necessary gaskets, seals, spark plugs, PCV valve, thermostat and reassembled all components. Refilled engine oil and replaced oil filter. Refilled and cycled cooling system. Scope checked and made all necessary adjustments. Found a camshaft correlation code. Performed inspection and found the vvt valve is not functioning correctly and the vvt sprocket is not fully functioning and keeps locking. Found a restriction of the oil supply to the vvt solenoid. Cleared the restriction and installed a new vvt solenoid. Removed the vvt sprocket, disassembled, cleaned and reinstalled the sprocket. Reassembled all necessary parts and verified the repairs. Cleared the correlation code, road tested and verified the repairs.
- Removed all necessary components and inspected spark plugs as needed. Found the #1 cylinder spark plug very clean and the #2 spark plug looked normal. Swapped the spark plugs, no change. Swapped the ignition coils, no change. Performed a hydrocarbon detection test, the fluid changed color slightly. Bore scoped the #1 cylinder and found signs of engine coolant in the cylinder. Recommend removing the cylinder head for inspection.
- Road tested and verified concern. Scan tested computer control system for stored trouble codes. Found code P0301 cylinder #1 misfire and P0302 cylinder #2 misfire. Scope tested ignition system patterns. The cylinder #1 misfire is pretty constant and #2 is intermittent.
